BeritaJakarta.com Jakarta government has several ways to reduce down the patient of tuberculosis (TBC) in Jakarta. Based on the data from Jakarta dept. of health, TBC patients in Jakarta up to December 31, 2007 were 14,416 people. “5,784 are new patients, 437 recurrent patients, BTA negative/positive are 8,982 patients, and lung extra TB are 302 people,” said the head of department Wibowo Sukijat, Wednesday (16/1).

According to Sukijat, the highest case of TBC is happen in East Jakarta by 5,666 people. Next is Central Jakarta by 3,188 people, West Jakarta 3,046, South Jakarta 2,679, and North Jakarta by 837 people.

Responding about the way how to solve the problem, Sukijat added that TBC socialization will be doing through social program such as holding TBC free medical check up. “We can find several cases of TBC through this program. TBC can also be found through laboratory check up,” added Sukijat. Sukijat is suggesting to TBC patients to get routine medical treatment because Jakarta government has guarantying for free medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the head of Pengurus Wilayah Perkumpulan Pemberantas Tuberkulosis (PPTI), Mrs. Surjadi Soedirdja, stated that Indonesia is in the third place for the highest case of TBC after India and China. That is why PPTI is asking support from Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo to minimize the case in Jakarta. “The collaboration between HIV/AIDS and TBC is also happened,” stated Soedirdja.

Based on PPTI data, there are 80 new patients following medical treatment and most of them should have medical treatment for six months, nine months, and one year.

Moreover, Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo explained that his officer through dept. of health will keep the coordination with PPTI to reduce TBC patients. “I need general model to reduce TBC case in Jakarta,” asked Bowo.

Bowo continued that there is no general model to reduce TBC case which is agreed by several elements that involved reducing the case. “Through the model, the task of stakeholder will be clearer to reduce the case,” explained Bowo.
