45 Sex Workers Escaped From Social Rehab Institution

BERITAJAKARTA.COM — 30/07/2012 16:01:12

As many as 45 sex workers (PSK) who inhabited Social Institution called Karya Wanita Mulya Jaya on Jl Tat Twam Asih No 47 Kompleks Depsos Pasarrebo, East Jakarta succeeded to escape, Sunday (7/29). The lack of security and supervision are surmised to have been the cause of the escape. The escaped 45 institution inhabitants are currently being pursued by the police.

The gathered information mentioned on Sunday morning, there are 30 people who were trying to break in the social institution. Te reason they conveyed for doing so was they would like to visit their relative. However, they were turned away at the entrance gate by 3 guards because it was not visiting hours yet. Two of the visiting people then approached and trying to persuade the guards to let them in. However the guards keep rejecting them and arguments ensued.

In a riotous situation, some of them were able to deceive the guards whose amount was outnumbered by the people who were trying to break in.

Without further ado, the intruders then urged the inhabitants to escape with them by using motorcycles. At the time it was 5.30 and the inhabitants have woken up for morning exercise and doing morning cleaning.

The officers were trying to thwart their escape attempt. In the middle of the chaos, one of the people named Wasim (30) who was suspected to work as the sex workers` pimp was arrested. Wasim was brought to Pasarrebo Sector Police Headquarter to take responsibility for his actions.

The administration officer of Karya Wanita Mulya Jaya social institution, Emil Salamun suspected the escape of 45 sex workers were organized by people from the outside. According to him, these people from the outside have contacted the sex workers since the day before to further plan the escape. He also regretted the malfunctioning of 4 units of surveillance cameras inside the premises so the whole incident cannot be recorded. "We apprehended one person and we brought him to the police. The case is fully in the hands of the police now," said Salamun, Monday (7/30).

The escaped inhabitants are new ones. They were brought to institution house on July 7 with 22 people and 24 people on July 12. From that amount, there is only one person named DW (18) from Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, who did not escape.

Initially, those social institution inhabitants would undergo guidance in terms of social, mental, physical, and other skills, for six months ahead. Hopefully, they can be welcomed again around the society after the guidance is finished. The institution can house 110 people, and currently has been occupied by 85 people.

Meanwhile, from Wasim hand, the officers found a cell phone which contains short message from other inhabitants.

To prevent similar case, Salamun added, he planned to tighten security and select belongings when visited and visiting hours. Then, the broken CCTVs will soon be fixed to monitor any activity in the institution.
