Semut, RT 006/04, Kapuk Urban Village, Cengkareng Sub-District, West Jakarta, since 2 AM this early morning is still blazing until 12 PM this afternoon, Monday (2/13). Numerous plastic materials are the cause of firefighters having difficulties in extinguishing the fire besides the factory’s location in dense area which troubled fire trucks reaching it.
Head of Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Department Paimin Napitupulu, who lead the extinguishing process, stated there are 35 fire trucks deployed to extinguish fire. “We have tried to extinguish fire using water and foam spray. Meanwhile, Head Operational Section of West Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Sub-Department Sukarno said that fire starts at 2 AM, but the factory security officer called firefighters around 3 AM. “The factory security officers had tried to extinguish fire at first. But, when the fire getting bigger, they finally called us. Since we are facing difficulties to extinguish fire, we try to prevent fire from spreading to other buildings, which are also factories and warehouses, and to settlements. No casualty reported in this incident,” he said.
Usep (40), one of the factory security officers, alleged the cause of fire is electrical short circuit from goods packing room on second floor which was empty when the fire occurred. “When the fire occurred, there was no production activity. The fire was just suddenly blazing on the second floor,” he informed.
According to him, in the same area of PT Surya Pasifik Nusantara, there is another plastic factory of PT Surya Pelangi Nusantara which owned also by Sunaryo. To prevent it from getting burnt as well, firefighters localize it.
