| Ayodya-Blok M Bicycle Track to Immediately OpenBERITAJAKARTA.COM — 01/02/2011 20:51:20
The 1.5 kilometer-long Ayodya Park-Blok M bicycle track in South Jakarta is set to immediately function, with the special road markings and signs for bicycles being installed. The special track is targeted to open before mid-2011.
South Jakarta Mayor, who is also Chairman of the Indonesian Bicycle Committee (KSI), Syahrul Effendi said the bicycle track had a width of 1.6 meters and the length of 1.5 kilometers. "The special track is made in line with international rules, bearing bicycle pictures and special road markings," said Syahrul while monitoring the preparation of the special track, Tuesday (2/1).
The construction of the special track using hotmix layer and already approved by Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo began two weeks ago driven by the KSI. The inauguration of the bicycle track is planned to be done by the governor.
Besides the current track, Syahrul added, as the second phase of bicycle track development in South Jakarta, his side also planned to set up a similar cluster system for cyclists, from Blok M to South Jakarta Mayoral office on Jl Prapanca; while the phase III would cover the area from Pondok Indah to Blok M.
In order to ensure the safety of the cyclists as well as to sterilize the special tracks from other road users, Syahrul said the tracks would be guarded round-the-clock by public order officers. "Each cyclist will also be covered with Jasa Raharja insurance," he concluded.
