| Jakarta Government Calls for Support from City Council for SIN Pilot ProjectBERITAJAKARTA.COM — 3/17/2010 6:59:06 PM
Jakarta capital city government has asked for support from the city council (DPRD) regarding the implementation of single identity number (SIN) in the capital, which is hoped to become the pilot project for other provinces in the country following six other provinces already appointed as the pilot projects by the Home Affairs Ministry.
The six provinces are West Sumatra, Gorontalo, South Sulawesi, Central Java, East Java, and Yogyakarta.
In regard to that matter, the council has positively responded, and pledged to discuss it with Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi in the near future.
"I have delivered all the things (to the city legislators) according to what we`ve done along with the data and the facts," said Jakarta Capital City Governor Fauzi Bowo after meeting with city legislators from commission II of city council, at City Hall, Jakarta, Wednesday (3/17).
During the meeting, the city legislators and city government discussed several issues including the bureaucratic reform, population, public services, and Jabodetabekpunjur (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Puncak, and Cianjur) spatial approach.
Jakarta Population and Civil Registry Agency is currently preparing the technical implementation of electronic ID cards targeted to be launched in the upcoming 2011. This measure is one of the government’s attempts to prevent falsification of ID card that can be used to commit criminal acts or acts of terrorism. In addition, it is also in line with the presidential decree No.26/2009 on the implementation of citizen registration number (NIK)-Based ID cards, also stating whole regions in the country should accelerate the implementation of the system.
"Hopefully, this system can be quickly implemented so that public can optimally feel the benefits, "he said.
The governor explained about the bureaucratic reforms focused on front liners strengthening efforts, in this case sub-districts and urban villages. Commission II also asked why the administration had not taken the opportunity of using the state budget as the country’s capital, which has been stipulated in the Act No. 32/2004.
Answering the question, Fauzi Bowo said the city government expected the state budget was dedicated to sustainable programs, not for incidental programs. At present, the city administration is developing projects which are able to provide sustainable and optimal benefits for Jakarta citizens, he added.
"It is necessary to follow up on this meeting, as principally the commission II of city council has agreed with the plan on Jakarta becoming the pilot project, "he stated.
"Jakarta with its big population of about 9.2 million has many more difficulties in implementing SIN system. So, it is necessary to have support in form of state budget and proper technology from central government in order to make this system run well, "said Mahfudz Sidik, one of the city council’s commission II members.
