BERITAJAKARTA.COM — 1/29/2010 9:45:47 PM

Jakarta Capital City Government is to relocate around 13 thousand street vendors to special locations designated to helping the vendors develop their businesses. However, only eligible street vendors can occupy the area.

Assistant of Economy and Administration of Jakarta Administration, Mara Oloan Siregar said presently city had as many as 20 locations accommodating at least six thousand street vendors. Mara revealed among the requirements for the street vendors to obtain the locations were status of Jakarta residents, and having ever joined a program of small business development run by local micro, small, and medium enterprises, and trade (KUMKMP) agency.

“There are at least 13 thousand vendors to be developed at special locations. But, those not entitled to the location will get raided,” he said as launching the Block C of a development location at Bintaro market, South Jakarta, Friday (1/29).

On the occasion, Mara expressed hopes that the vendors would really use the location to develop their businesses. “This location should be well maintained, thus it can compete with modern markets,” he said.

Udjo, one of the street vendors to occupy the location, expected the government would not only provide the location, but also facilitate the vendors to grow their businesses, such as by extending cheap credit.
