| Central Jakarta Cooperates With Kitakyushu to Handle DumpBERITAJAKARTA.COM — 1/26/2010 6:14:12 PM
To settle the problem of dump in its area, Central Jakarta Municipality explores the possibility of cooperating with Kitakyushu city govt., Fukuoka, Japan. Four representatives from Kitakyushu has discussed the matter with Central Jakarta Municipality officials on Tuesday (1/26) at Central Jakarta Mayor Office, Jl Tanahabang I, Central Jakarta.
Kitakyushu city govt. introduced the method of dump processing using a basket called Takakura (based on its founder`s name). Dump processing using Takakura basket was aimed to reduce the volume of dump and to recycle the dump. The recycled result could be utilized as compost and other useful things.
Through this method, Kitakyushu has succeeded in reducing dump up to 20% every year. 1 Millions of Kitakyushu people produce 400 thousands of tons of dump every year.
After the meeting, Central Jakarta Assistant of Development and Environment, Tihang Helmi stated that Takakura basket method was a dump processing method through recycling and composting.
“In fact, the method has been implemented in the integrated landfill in Rawasari, Cempakaputih. This program widens our knowledge of dump processing,” said Tihang Helmi, Tuesday (1/26).
Helmi stated that if the cooperation continued, in the next years the dump volume in Central Jakarta will decrease because every urban village owns an integrated landfill. “It will lessen the dump volume sent to Bantargebang,” he explained.
But the cooperation is still under discussion for realization. “The plan should be prepared maximally for a better result,” he asserted.
Head of Central Jakarta Environment Agency, Abdul Malik stated that at present the dump volume in Central Jakarta has reached 5,280 cubic meters every day. It will be a positive progress if the dump to be lessened 20% every year by using the new method of dump processing.
