City`s export value rises by 26.93 percent

BERITAJAKARTA.COM — 12/2/2009 5:51:07 PM

Export value through Jakarta during October 2009 reached 3.073 billion US dollar, rising 26.93 percent compared with the value in September 2009 reaching 2.421 billion US dollar. However, the export value accumulated from January to October 2009 only reached 26.71 billion US dollar, declining 12.03 percent in comparison to the value last year.

Jakarta Central Statistic Bureau (BPS) head Agus Suherman says the rise is triggered by the recovery of economic condition during which the global crisis has been taking place since 1998. "From May to August, the export value began to rise, but in September it experienced a slowdown. Hwever in October, the export value bounced back," said Agus Suherman in Jakarta, Wednesday (12/2).

Unfortunately, the acceleration does not occur in the export value of the City’s products that experienced a decline in September 2009, only 551.16 million US dollar; down by 14.23 percent from the export value recorded in August, reaching 642.63 million US dollar, dereasing by 24.11 percent from the export value in September 2008.

Agus explains that the export having a large and direct influence on the economy of Jakarta was the export of products produced by business units domiciled in Jakarta. The products are exported through Jakarta port and other ports across the country, such as Lampung, Central Java and East Java. A series of production processes and the distribution will create jobs and will also increase the City’s income.

While the contribution of the export value of Jakarta products in September 2009 against the overall value of exports through Jakarta reached 22.76 percent, an increase of 0.35 points from the contribution in August 2009, which reached 22.41 percent. The increase of export value through Jakarta in October 2009 is contributed by some primary products such as machinery, electrical equipment, mechanical appliances, knitted goods, and textiles. "They are five Jakarta’s non-oil products having the highest export value during September 2009," explained Agus.

The main market of Jakarta’s export products is still held by Asia, reaching 220.24 million US dollar. Some of Asian countries becoming the main market of Jakarta’s export products are Hong Kong, Japan, United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. As the second main market of the export products are countries in ASEAN which reach 156.57 million US dollar. Then the countries in American continent contributed 92.4 million US dollar of the export transactions, and the countries in the continent of Australia and Oceania recorded US $ 16.11 million.

Meanwhile, City’s import value in October 2009 increased by 16.07 percent, reaching 4.47 billion US dollar compared to the import value in September 2009 that reached 3.85 billion US dollar. However, when compared with the same month in 2008, the value is 18.40 percent lower. The import value consists of import value through bonded area worth 751.68 million US dollar, and from outside the bonded area of 3.718 million US dollar.

Based on the type of goods use or Brand Economic Category (BEC), the import value during the period January-September 2009 decreased for all groups compared with the use of goods from January to September of 2008.
