| Fire guts 50 houses in North JakartaBERITAJAKARTA.COM — 11/28/2009 8:43:37 PM
At least 50 semi-permanent houses mostly made of wood in Kampung Baru RT (Neighborhood Unit) 011/ RW (Community Unit) 11, Pluit, Penjaringan, North Jakarta were razed by raging fire Saturday morning (11/28) at about 6 am.
The fire accident was allegedly caused by short-circuit in a house belonging to Rasinah, one of the local residents. When the accident took place, Rasinah was going back to her hometown to celebrate the Islamic sacrifice day of Idul Adha. Nobody was injured, but the losses were estimated reaching hundreds of millions of rupiah.
”The fire quickly spread to other houses because many people were not at home, they were selling fish in the market,” said Fadil, a local resident, Saturday (11/28).
Fadil told beritajakarta.com; as he knew the fire accident, he directly shouted to wake up his neighbors who some of them were still sleeping. Instantly, some people in panic ran out to save their valuable belongings, while some others tried to extinguish the fire with makeshift equipment.
About 15 minutes after the fire broke out, 15 fire engines from North Jakarta Sub Department for Fire and Calamity Tackling arrived at the location.
Sunda Kelapa police precinct chief AKP Kristanto Yoga Darmawan said the fire accident was still under police investigation. The initial allegation was due to short-circuit.
