To make a green and healthy Jakarta, South Jakarta Municipality still holds the program of one man one tree one bio-pore (LRB) campaign. Celebrating the Indonesia Tree Planting Day on the next 28 November, South Jakarta has planted 10 thousand trees in 10 Sub-districts, Tuesday (11/24). Symbolically, the tree planting is held in Tangkuban Perahu Park, Guntur, Setiabudi, South Jakarta.
South Jakarta Mayor, Syahrul Effendi, urged that since January to 6 November, South Jakarta has planted 42,700 productive trees. In the future, it is hoped there will be 10 thousand trees planted every month.
“But now, we have reached the target. Thanks to participation from the society and private sectors,” Effendi stated, Tuesday (11/24).
He hoped his people will be more care for the nature. They could plant trees around their house. Effendi has instructed his staff and people to make a clean, healthy and green environment. At least, one resident could plant one tree and one bio-pore hole.
People can benefit from the tree planting program in 4 to 5 years later. Therefore, South Jakarta always plant double function and productive trees such as mango, starfruit, guava and mangosteen.
A quote from Mahatma Gandhi shows us that "Earth and water are enough to be used for human life, but will not be enough when it comes to human greed”. Therefore, people have to protect and care for the earth.
Effendi also asked the people to reduce the air pollution by using bicycle to the office. Since last year, he has rode bicycle to the office twice a week.
