Hundreds of West Jakarta residents come to Kota Tua area, Sunday (11/15). They come in groups to watch Betawi culture event in Car Free Day program in Kota Tua. This car free day event is enlivened with sympathetic action of labeling the “no-smoking” sign in public transportation passed by.
"Kota Tua has a great historical value. We have to take care of its environment quality,” Aurora Tambunan, city deputy governor in culture and tourism, stated at Jakarta History Museum square, Sunday (11/15).
Tambunan said that car free day and Betawi culture event is an harmony. “We can enjoy cultural attractions without being polluted,” she said.
It is hoped the Betawi culture event will be routinely held as a part of Enjoy Jakarta program. There are bazaar, musical event and fireworks attraction.
Deputy Mayor of West Jakarta, Sukarno, stated that car free day has made the quality of air in Kota Tua better. Carbon dioxide from the 2 to 3 ppm (parts per million) declines to only 0.4 ppm. NO from the previous 20 pbb declines to 2 ppb and dust from 140 micrograms declines to 120 micrograms.
The no-smoking label is a follow-up program of by law no.2/2005 about air pollution tackling. “It is hoped people will not smoke in public areas,” he said.
Betawi culture event is a routine agenda in Kota Tua. It is an event of Kota Tua revitalization and planned to be a prioritized tourist destination in art and culture.
“This is a promotion of Kota Tua,” he explained.
