Street vendors of Lorong 104 resist order operation

BERITAJAKARTA.COM — 11/9/2009 7:27:35 PM

Although North Jakarta Administration has provided new locations, hundreds of street vendors doing business in Lorong 104 area of Pasar Permai, Koja still refuse to be relocated. They prefer to stay at the Lorong 104 despite the threat of order operation to be done in the near time.

As of Monday (11/9), the street vendors were still seen trading at the location. In relation to this matter, North Jakarta Mayor has issued the order letter of demolition over the trading spot.

To stop the officers from conducting demolition operation on Lorong 104, which was scheduled Monday (11/9), the street vendors set up barricade on Jl Yos Sudarso. The measure was taken following North Jakarta Mayor’s order letter asking them to immediately empty the location. “We together with around 300 other vendors from Lorong 104 are gathering here to prevent the operation,” said Syamsu Rizal, one of the street vendors.

“The relocation plan is bullshit. The new locations provided by the government are no longer worthy to be used,” said Uda, another vendor at Lorong 104.

“We will never leave this location since we have been here for so long,” said Uda as he and other vendors stated to keep staying at Lorong 104 despite the Mayor’s letters.

However, North Jakarta Vice Mayor Atma Sanjaya says his administration will certainly conduct the operation, because trading activities at the location clearly violate the bylaw No 8/2007 on public order. “We are still looking for the right time to carry out the operation,” Atma told beritajakarta.com, explaining the delays of the operation frequently taking place.

“This is only about the technical matter. Moreover, the third demolition order letter has also been issued, meaning that Lorong 104 must be clear from the street vendors within 1x24 hours,” stated Atma.
