One of the priority programs for Jakarta City Administration is managing the green space. Today, the number of green space in Jakarta is only 9.3 percent out of its total wide 661.52 km square.
Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said on Spatial Planning Day commemoration Sunday (11/8), city administration tries to re-function the green space areas that have been used by industry for gas stations and illegal buildings. “Park will be built in the green space used for gas stations before. It will add our green space by 4 ha,” Bowo said, Sunday (11/8).
Not only closing the gas stations, the city administration has run environment-based programs such as planting trees, making biopore and absorbing-well, reducing air pollution through car free day, etc. “Those are our priority programs,” he added.
The development in Jakarta should be supported by central government, citizens, local government, and private. It means city administration will not be able to manage the programs alone. This is the only way to realize green Jakarta.
The city administration will still support the next spatial planning day commemoration. It is relevant to facing the challenge of environmental growth at this moment.
Many activities have burdened the environment. In the other side, the ability of maintaining itself is too low. “By continuing the green spatial planning well, green Jakarta can be realized,” he continued.
Moreoever, the Minister of Public Works Djoko Kirmanto explained since the application of Act No 26/2007 about Spatial Planning, the spatial planning as a development approach will get full attention not only from government but also environmental experts, industry and society.
“Plenty of problems have made the officials start to pay attention to this matter,” he explained. Building the society habit for better environment is also important beside running the program.
