| Credit system for education to be applied in JakartaBERITAJAKARTA.COM — 11/5/2009 6:53:24 PM
In order to improve the quality of education, Jakarta Dept. of Education is planning to implement semester credit system (SKS) in learning process. The implementation will be fully handed over to the school based on school-based management.
Jakarta Head of Dept. of Education Taufik Yudi Mulyanto said that the agency has given chance for school to implement the credit system in order to get qualified learning activities. “We hoped the education quality will improve after the school implements the system well,” he said Thursday (11/5).
At this time, the credit system has been implemented in state and private schools such as SMAN 78 West Jakarta, SMP/SMA Labschool, while SMAN 53 East Jakarta runs a moving-class system.
By this system, the students are able to move in another class based on the lesson they want. The credit system will let the students choose the lesson based on their time.
To enlarge the knowledge, the agency will make coordination with Australia by exchanging students and teachers from both countries. Australia is able to develop an individual education because the students will focus on one lesson only, different from Jakarta which uses package system. “Our ability is developing global education,” he added.
According to him, a city in Australia, Perth, has 2.2 millions of population but it is always attended by students from 100 countries of 5 continents. They come to Australia to get education. That is why Australia has put education just like an industry and often socialize the education system to other countries.
Amsani Idris for Jakarta Junior/High School Education Division stated foreign students will pay more expensive cost of education than local people. That is why exchanging the students and teachers both from Indonesia and Australia can solve this matter.
