West Jakarta monitors sacrificed animal health

BERITAJAKARTA.COM — 11/4/2009 3:33:21 PM

Coming closer to Islamic Day of Sacrifice (Idul Adha 1430 H), West Jakarta Sub Department for Husbandry and Fishery plans to set up a monitoring team. The team of 80 persons will be assigned to directly supervise the animals sacrificed during the holidays.

Head of West Jakarta Sub Department for Husbandry and Fishery, Kusdiana says the team will be divided into eight groups consisting of ten personnel each. The team comprises Civil Servant Investigators (PPNS) and veterinaries bearing assignment letters from Jakarta Department of Husbandry, Fishery, and Maritime. “The team will directly visit locations at which sacrificed animals placed, and check the health of the animals,” Kusdiana told beritajakarta.com, Wednesday (11/4).

“We also provide health services for the animals,” he said, adding that the team is to start working from D d-10 to D d-4.

Every sacrificed animal vendor is required to have certificate of animal health (SKKH) issued by the regional authority from which the animals come. Otherwise, the monitoring team will check the animals’ health condition to determine whether they are worthy to be sold or not. “If the animals are healthy, we will issue the certificate, but if not, the animals should be brought back to their regions of origin,” he stated.

Meanwhile, West Jakarta Religion Office head Sutami said, “Our religion (Islam) clearly regulates that sacrificed animals must be in a perfect health condition without defect.”
