Central Jakarta Municipal Administration has launched a new system to handle waste problem in its area. The system which is named jali-jali applies a method in which cleaning officers directly come to residents’ houses to take garbage. The system is set up following the closure of many temporary dump sites.
In the early stage of the implementation, the system has not run optimally because the trucks used to transport the garbage are too old; more than fifteen years on average; and they are frequently broken down on the road, said Syamsudin M Nasir, Head of Central Jakarta Sub Department for Cleanliness after holding an interactive dialogue with members of Jakarta City council, Tuesday (10/27).
However, such an obstacle has been settled out by involving sections of cleanliness in every sub district. “We have overcome the problem. We will directly dispatch a new truck any time we receive information of broken truck from officers in sub district,” he added.
According to him, Central Jakarta Sub Department of Cleanliness currently has 152 trucks with the total capacity of 5,280 cubic meter of garbage a day.
Head of Community Unit 01 of Cikini urban village, Herwandi admits, since the dump site on Jl AA Kali Pasir was closed, garbage in his area has been transported using jali-jali system.
