Air quality station to be launched November

BERITAJAKARTA.COM — 10/24/2009 6:39:03 PM

The Jakarta City Administration has already owned one air quality monitor station. The station will be launched next month. As planned before, the station will be placed in front of Grand Indonesia Hotel. The station is allocated in 2009 City Local Budget Rp 5.5 billion, but it has reduced to Rp 5.093 billion after bidding.

Peni Susanti for Jakarta Local Management Environment Board said the agency has difficulty to monitor the air quality, especially in Jakarta area. It is because city administration does not have its own station, wile five stations are owned by Ministry of Environmental Agency. Three of them are broken.

“Those three units can not be repaired because we have no allocation for this effort. It is because the station is not owned by city administration. Letter has been submitted to the agency but still no response,” Susanti told beritajakarta.com, Saturday (10/24).

Installing the station is aimed to reach the air pollution standard index, increasing the air quality, and looking for the air quality trend.

“We’ve planned to buy the station and allocated it in 2008 city budget, but it was postponed. The price is too high. That is why we only have one station so far,” she added.

The station will be launched next month by Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo together with the emission test law enforcement launching.

According to her, the city administration should have one station in each administration area. Bangkok has 23 stations and they can monitor air quality well. “Each area ideally has one station, but we should try to add the station one by one per year,” she continued.

Next year, the agency will add stations in East Jakarta and North Jakarta. Both are overpopulated and industrial areas. The stations have been allocated in 2010 city budget Rp 12 billion. One mobile station is also allocated Rp 5 billion.
