No one knows whether the City Administration operational vehicles are in bad condition until test is held for the vehicles. When tested in South Jakarta Mayor Office, Tuesday (10/20), one guard patrol motorcycle is stated not pass the emission test.
The motorcycle is driven by Suharto for South Jakarta Sub-Dept. of Transportation. The motorcycle did not pass the test even though it has been held twice. “Please fix the emission and do not pollute the air, “said South Jakarta Mayor Syahrul Effendi.
After testing the guard patrol motorcycle, Effendi also tested private motorcycle in Environmental Office Agency owned by Rusliyanto. “The motorcycle has passed the test,” he added.
According to him, the emission test is applied to administration operational vehicles to save the air quality in Jakarta which is getting worse from time to time. “There are 400 vehicles in South Jakarta, and last year 90 percent of them passed the test,” he continued.
Jakarta Head of Local Environment Management Board Peni Susanti expressed this emission test was the fourth time in Jakarta areas. It is aimed to improve the air quality of Jakarta and make Jakarta as the third best city in Asia based on the air quality.
“Twenty years ago Jakarta was the dirtiest city, but now we are one of the cleanest cities in Asia. The emission test is in line with the implementation of bylaw No 2/2005 about Air Pollution Control,” he added.
