After the ballots recapitulation of the 2012 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election is finished, Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU) confirms would hold the second round of the gubernatorial election. This is ensured after no pair of candidates in the election able to earn votes more than 50 percent.
On the second round, the pairs entitled to run for Jakarta governor and deputy governor position are pair number 1 Fauzi Bowo-Nachrowi Ramli and pair number 3 Joko Widodo-Basuk Tjahaya Purnama.
“Seeing the recapitulation result that no one got 50 percent plus one votes, so no pair of candidates can be named as the new Jakarta governor and deputy governor. The pairs of Jokowi-Ahok and Fauzi-Nara will be competing on the second round. This is stipulated in Jakarta KPU Decree No. 28/Kpts/KPU-Prov-010/2012,” stated Head of Jakarta KPU, Dahliah Umar, at Jakarta KPU office on Jl. Budi Kemuliaan, Gambir, Central Jakarta, Friday (7/20).
Based on the ballots counting recapitulation result in provincial level, Jokowi-Ahok successfully wins the first round with 1,847,157 votes or 42.40 percent. The pair is followed by Fauzi-Nara in the second place with 1,476,648 votes or 34.05 percent.
Umar said Jakarta KPU has anticipated the second round since the first round election began. Jakarta KPU scheduled the second round to be held on September 20. Similar with previous election, the day will be a regional holiday.
“It must be dismissed due to based on the applicable rule, the gubernatorial election must be held on holiday,” she told.
