Tens of street vendors (PKL) are freely selling their merchandise on Jl Pesing Koneng, RW 01 and 02, Kedoyautara, Kebonjeruk due to low control from the ranks of Kebonjeruk Sub-District and West Jakarta Water Management Public Works Sub-Dept. As a result, those street vendors are often disposing trash haphazardly in Sekretaris River which has length 500 meters. Thus, it causes the river is filled by trashes and mud.
Responding this, the ranks of Kebonjeruk Sub-District and West Jakarta Water Management Public Works Sub-Dept. holds another controlling to street vendors along Jl Pesing Koneng. After controlling, the officers were dredging the trashes and mud in Sekretaris River. By so, the floodwater from Sekretaris River is expected not spills into the settlement. Mostly those PKLs are selling vegetables, fish and fruits in the location. “50 street vendors successfully controlled in this raid. We also have installed selling prohibition sign in the location. In addition, we also cooperating with water management public works sub-dept. to do dredging in the river,” said Sub-District Chief of Kebonjeruk Hendra Hidayat, Monday (3/12).
West Jakarta Mayor Burhanuddin stated that the street vendors are actually prohibited to sell near on the riverbank because they often disposing trash in the river. “We also have prepared the place at Kedoya market for street vendors which its location is near with previous location,” he told.
Rohim, (45), one of sellers claimed that the trash is coming from resident’s settlement and swept away by water when rain poured. “Due to rental kiosk at Kedoya market is expensive, so we don’t want to move there,” he said.
