High accident rate involving TransJakarta bus makes TransJakarta Public Service Agency (BLU) plans to tighten the recruitment and training process of TransJakarta driver. Muhammad Akbar as Head of TransJakarta BLU stated the training for driver is one of the three programs that will be applied by TransJakarta BLU to minimize accident rate. “The training consists of understanding signs or fleet operational standard with 50 kilometers per hour of speed,” he explained, Wednesday (7/27).
Besides tighten driver selection and training, BLU also plans to conduct several handling programs, such as completing facilities and infrastructures which includes installing traffic signs on TransJakarta bus lanes and urging residents to obey the rules. “One of the rules is pedestrian or motorists are prohibited to pass on busway lanes,” he added.
So far, he continued, TransJakarta drivers are also continuously reminded to be careful while driving, especially in areas prone to accident by using handy talky. Moreover, TransJakarta bus lane sterilization is also continued with portals installed in several points.
Currently, there are 25 automatic portals at five TransJakarta corridors. The portals at corridor II located in Galur; corridor III in Dispenda, Gantung Bridge, Indosiar, and Sumber Waras; corridor IV in BPKB Pramuka, Utan Kayu, traffic light By Pass, and Genjing Market; corridor V in Slamet Riyadi, Kramat Sentyong, Matraman, Salemba Carolus, and Salemba UI; corridor V in SMK 57, Jatipadang, Pejaten, Buncit Indah, Warung Jati, Imigrasi, Duren Tiga, traffic light 78, traffic light Tendean, and Kuningan Timur.
Transjakarta BLU officials have also mapping points of automatic portals in corridor IX and X which inaugurated in 2010. However, they do not know yet the total of automatic portal needed.
According to Akbar, as anticipation step and handling of TransJakarta accident case, BLU will cooperate with Jakarta Transportation Department (Dishub). “Especially, the Dishub has planned to elevate TransJakarta bus separators to reduce accident rate,” he explained.
As known, there are 55 accident cases along this year involving TransJakarta bus, including accident case had by Kamariah, resident of Sunter, North Jakarta, who was dead due to hit by TransJakarta bus on Tuesday (7/26). However, accident rate this year is decreasing compared to the same period last year which reached 66 cases.
