The cheap tuition fee of state junior high school (SMPN) and state senior high school (SMAN) is making many parents want to send their children to study there. That is why residents of Rawaterate Urban Village, Cakung Sub-District, East Jakarta, hope for SMPN and SMAN to be built in their area. The absence of state schools in their area makes children go to school in distant places, namely Pondok Kopi, Pulogadung, until Kelapa Gading. Currently, there are only two state elementary schools (SDN) of 03 and 04 Rawaterate in thei area.
A member of Rawaterate Urban Village Forum Board (LMK) Deny Wisnu Sanjaya said that their demand has been proposed since long ago, but it never realized until now. "We have requested for SMPN and SMAN to be built. We ask to the government to realize it for the sake of education advancement," he expressed in an interactive dialogue entitled The Future of Education in Jakarta, Its Opportunities and Challenges which held by Jakarta Information Communication and Public Relations Department at the hall of Cakung Sub-District, East Jakarta, Friday (7/8).
Head Section of Program and Budget for Jakarta Education Department, Gunas Mahdiyanto, stated that the policy to build state schools is not entirely the responsibility of education department but also there are roles involving local municipalities, starting from urban village, sub-district, until the mayor. This is related to the land that will be used for the construction of the school building.
"Residents should propose this matter to the local district. Later on, the proposal will be signed by sub-district chief and submitted to the mayor. Afterwards, the mayor will coordinate with Jakarta Education Department because the land that will be used should in accordance with its designation. In addition, there are principle permits which issued by the municipalities when they will build the schools," he explained.
He also added that in principle, Jakarta Education Department is ready to build new schools as long as the municipalities willing to provide the land area.
Abu Bakar as Deputy Head of Cakung said this residents’ proposal will be responded and followed up. In order to realize it soon, he will put the proposal in the discussion forum of development planning (Musrenbang) at district level as well as city level. So far, he admitted there is no a written application proposed by residents regarding to the state schools construction.
“We ask residents to propose written application as soon as possible to be submitted in 2012 Musrenbang. Usually, proposals about education importances were responded immediately due to related with residents’ needs,” he asserted.
