Nowadays, it is hard to find people read Al-Qur`an, especially after Maghrib pray. Therefore, Fauzi Bowo declared "Gerakan Masyarakat Maghrib Mengaji" (GEMMAR MENGAJI), a movement to encourage Al-Qur`an reading for the Moslems, in At-Tin hall mosque, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta, Tuesday (4/26).
He stated, morale decadency crisis occur due to materialistic behavior from foreign culture. “A long time ago, Jakarta residents often read Al-Qur`an after Maghrib pray in their house or mosque. This is a good tradition, but unfortunately it is gone now," he said.
Moreover he explained in recent technological advances, everybody wants to increase their life quality, which is a normal thing. But, it is better if they also have persistence of faith and moral strength, so the next generation will grow as Qurani generation.
To succeed this movement, Fauzi Bowo as Jakarta Governor commands directly the urban village officials to proclaim GEMMAR MENGAJI in their area and must held Al-Qur`an recital competition for residents. For preliminary, Tambora and Sawah Besar sub-districts will be the pilot program of GEMMAR MENGAJI.
Head of Regional Office of Religious Affairs Ministry stated through this program it is hoped Moslems in Jakarta can actively held Al-Qur`an recital in their neighborhood. “I hope this program is not limited for youth only, but also to all Moslems resident. Hopefully it could protect people from negative behavior," he continued.
Besides Jakarta, GEMMAR MENGAJI also declared in West Java, Central Java, East Java, Banten and Yogyakarta.
