City Ready to Run `Jampersal`BERITAJAKARTA.COM — 1/7/2011 9:33:10 PM
The childbirth insurance package called `Jaminan Persalinan (Jampersal) is a program that provides free medical treatment for residents delivering baby at hospital class III service. This program starts into effect this year in the entire territory of Indonesia, including the capital city Jakarta.
Related to this, Jakarta Health Agency has been prepared to synchronize the program with other programs already run by the city government, such as the health safety net fund for poor families (JPK Gakin) and relief letter (SKTM) program.
"Since 2002, Jakarta Health Agency has implemented similar programs such as SKTM and JPK Gakin, which provide free service for citizens who give birth at community health centers and city-owned hospitals (RSUD)," said Jakarta Health Agency Head Dien Emmawati, Friday (1/7).
Therefore, she continued, it was not difficult to implement Jampersal in Jakarta, because the program would only be integrated with other similar programs already running. “We expect the presence of Jampersal will bring more and more hospitals that eliminate costs of maternity services to the poor," she said.
At present, explained Dien, Jakarta government provides free maternity service including cesarean section at 17 referral public hospitals and 70 health centers which already have a delivery room.
"We (in this case the city government through its health agency) pay the costs to the community health centers and hospitals. In essence, the objective of the health agency`s programs and Jampersal has been the same, which is to reduce maternal mortality in Indonesia already reaching 228 per 100 thousand births," Dien said.
