Short history of Jakarta Provincial Government online media

The fast growing of information technology (IT) makes society’s need of data and information for such programs and policy that has been done by Jakarta Provincial Government higher. City Government and its staff had to be faster, smart and be transparent in order to accommodate society’s needs.

At the end of 2000, the Bureau of Public Relation gave an idea to prepare data and information to all societies in a fast and free way and could be operated directly by themselves. The form of data and information was called Jakarta Cyber that placed in some strategic locations in Jakarta.

But in the progress, the Jakarta Cyber program has not been implemented yet. There was another idea that would be much better in the implementation and had wider network.

Jakarta Provincial Government has Electronic Data Administrator Office (Kantor Pengelola Data Elektronik –KPDE) unit in its organization structure. Now it changed to Information Technology Administrator Office (Kantor pengelola Teknologi Informasi –KPTI) unit. While in the other side it also has Bureau of Public Relation which assigns to socialize and publicize all City Government program and policy.

Under the supervision of Vice Governor for Economy and Finance, there were coordination meeting between KPDE and Bureau of Public Relation to unite the perception of giving data service and information to all Jakarta citizens.

After such meetings, the conclusion was City Government would make data service and information through a website. This website has been managed together by KPDE as the one that responsible in technical and Bureau of Public Relation that responsible in redaction.

At first, the website was named Jakarta News, but another side has owned it so the beritajakarta.com name came up and it became the name of the website. Now beritajakarta.com becomes the name of official website of Jakarta Provincial Government.

The website management is done in self-management through the involvement of professionals.

In June 2001, in about to celebrate the 574 Jakarta’s anniversary, beritajakarta.com had launched by Sutiyoso as the former Jakarta Governor.
